Dry, gunky lips help?

Okay, I suppose people automatically assume it's because I don't drink enough water. Believe me. I drink at least two 8oz glasses of water, a cup or two of tea (about 5oz), and anything else throughout the day. I apply lip balm constantly (at least once every hour) and yet my lips still have that gross, dehydrated gooey thing going on.

It really started when got my lip pierced two months ago. Could that be part of it?

Either way. Any suggestions on what to do that isn't "drink more water" or "wear more chapstick/lip balm"? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't have health insurance and can't see a doctor about it.

Answer:
You should drink at least 64 ounces of just water a day. Chapped lips are the first sign of dehydration. Also, many chapsticks and lip balms cause your lips to become addicted (no I'm not joking) to them so your lips dry out so you will use more. Carmex and anything with vaseline in it are the big one's to watch out for. Just drink more water. 16 oz of water a day is not enough and tea doesn't count.
try Vaseline
maybe you have an infection to your lip piercing?
or your allergic to the type of metal it is made out of?

if you put on chapstick alot, then maybe you should go to the doctor for help
If you pierced your lip and are still cleaning it after two months with some form of alcohol-containing cleaning solution, the alcohol in it will dry your lips. Alcohol can dry skin up, that is why it will also cause dry lips when you use it to clean the piercing. If you recently stopped using cleaning solution but are still feeling dryness it could be that you were allergic to something in the solution and the skin flaking is a mild form of allergic reaction.

If it's still really flaky and painful, try aloe vera gel and a little bit of baby oil.
Buy a chapstick and apply it on almost every half an hour. On top of that apply color lip gloss. Do that for a week, or two.
When you use excessive amounts of chapstick/lip balm, your lips stop producing thier own moisture and the more you apply the more it will dry your lips out.. especially if it is oil based(physics oil and water don't mix). Serious! I had this problem too.... try the burts bees natural wax or aloe like the girl above said..
Hello. Try rubbing a dab of neosporin ointment (over the counter) on your piercing/ lip area. It works!! (don't lick your lips) and you may need to scrub the ickies off with a paste made of sugar and water before you put it on. rub the paste with a warm wash cloth. good luck! PS I think you need more water and a great way to get that down is by drinking crystal lite! i love the peach tea.
