Answer:
Yes they should pay for it; my doctor did say once that medicade and medicare do pay for the implant and the trials. Most insurance companies do pay for it, but they should check just to make sure. It is a fairly expensive surgery, and the worst part is because I have Keloid scarring condition that I've had the surgery done 4 times because my scar tissue picks up the leads and carries them away, but besides that I've been really glad with the pain relief that I've gotten.
no but they will pay for a tens machine. with a writen prescription. n it will help somewhat. I have one for uteral pain. n othas have had them for back surgery pain. n otha things. its 4 electric probe pads u place on ur skin in areas that u wish. n then it box sends electric shocks in 3 differnt ways ( u choose the best one for u) to the pads. to confuse the nerves n confuss ur brain into not feelin the pain. try it

You should check with your States Medicaid office also the Doctor you are seeing should be able to find out for you before doing implant. Medicaid and Medicare have different rules according to need and financial situation.
Hope this helps
I had mine implanted here in Australia and OUR Medicare didn't cover it.
If your friend would like to ask me any questions about the surgery, what to expect, what it feels like etc you can e-mail me through this site.
I have had mine in for 2 years and I have had my pain reduced by 85% and OFF ALL pain meds.
I am also the Australian Ambassador for Medtronic who make the stimulator so know heaps about it and surgery as that's what I do for the company.
Cheers.
