Ah, I can truly answer this question as I work in a CT department at a local hospital. What you are drinking contains barium sulfate which is contrast that does not contain Iodine. We use a product called Redicat. The iodine containing contrast is called Gastroview. Now if you are drinking the barium sulfate contrast you should not have any complications after the study unless your prior symptoms include diarrhea. You should be absolutely fine to go get your car an oil change after the scan. You're probably getting your Abd/Pelvis scanned with IV and Oral Contrast. The test takes less than 10 mins. You will though eventually have to evacuate your bladder but that's nothing new. Hope this helps.
Well, I didn't get a milkshake, I got it in Crystal Light, it didn't effect me like that, but the volume they had me drink and the intervals at which I had to drink it made me throw it all up as soon as I drank the last interval.
So, there ya go.
No, it shouldn't. But the barium can make you very constipated, so you might want to take a stool softener or laxative (which the doctor will probably explain to you anyway).
it could but what it does 90% of the time is just turn your normal movement white
My 11 year old daughter had one of those a few days ago and it didn't affect her in any way. I have heard, though, that some people get the "runs" and pretty bad cramps, but not for several hours afterwards. You probably would be OK, but check out if the place you will be has a bathroom, just in case . . . Or just reschedule the oil change.
i had a kidney removed 5 years ago for cancer so i had ct scans every three months for the firs three years every 6 months for two so i have drank a lot of barium and my advice is stay close to a bathroom afterwords and drink alto of water if they use an iodine injection.
My friend had runs terribly. It affects people differently. Give yourself a few hours before venturing too far from home after wards.
