Does anybody know..?

anything about a sex addiction? Is it like alcoholism? does anyone else have a hard time accepting it as a diagnosis (not me, someone I know...) or does it seem like a copout for a serious lack of control? serious answers only.

Answer:
Sexual addictions are real... .Just like gambling, it is about impulse control.
I was in a relationship where my b/f was addicted to porn, etc. and it became clear that he had a sexual addiction. It became so intense (and he hid this from all) that it interfered with normal relationships, including our sexual relationship. It is destructive and requires conseling to help with impulse control. Sadly, the internet makes it easier for these addicts...
It's treated as an addiction, but not necessarily something that your body craves. It's more like an impulse control problem, which someone cannot really help. For those that are SERIOUSLY and professionally diagnosed, it can be treated with therapy, because it may be part of an underlying disorder (i.e. borderline pesronality disorder, where you may engage in reckless sexual behavior).
its just human nature in some people. i love sex, and would have it all the time if i could, as would most (note the word most) men, and a lot of women.
the male of all species' natural instinct is to reproduce.
some people are just way more horny than others.
like me!
nothing wrong with it, as long as they dont do something stupid.
nothing like alcoholism or any drug addiction.
To me sex addiction is the need to feel love. When you have sex you are as close physically as you can be to someone so it feels like they must love you.
Sexual adiction is when the the desire for sex becomes obsessive to the point of interfering with daily activities. An example would be a person the feels compelled to have sex several time daily with different partners. There are some theories that in the case of sex addicts, that sex causes their bodies to produce abnormally large amounts of endorphins which give a heroin like high, and that they are physically addicted to the endorphins.
Anyway, they experience the same social-psychological effects as an alcoholic or narcotics addict, and similar treatment programs that work for alcoholics work for sex addicts.
