Does antidepressant drugs prevent depression , or is it possible to have it even

Answer:
sometimes it can make depression worse... some people have to switch medications a few times to find one that works the best for them
Antidepressants do not prevent depression they merely keep it controlled.
Antidepressants are made to control depression. There are so many different types that if you are suffering from depression you may need try several before finding one that helps you. Dosage is another factor.
The results aren't overnight, you won't wake up and just feel amazing right away.
When I was diagnosed with depression, I felt actually worse while taking the medication before I got better. It was about 1 1/2 weeks to 2 weeks before I felt more like myself.
Anti-depressants stops the highs and lows for a while. Problem is you can go overboard when you come off. Usual course of anti-d's is three months. Well if you cold turkey three months you can get the same reasult. Up to you but but the maths when you go overboard total 9 months as opposed to cold turkey. Really depends if you are strong enough.
There is no magic pill that will 'prevent' depression. Most of the time, people are already depressed when they start on medication. Antidepressants will help stabilize, however, as with any long term medication, your symptoms have to be monitored and medication adjusted accordingly. Once someone starts on medication, it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to see marked improvement.

People who take antidepressants will always run the risk of still having a relaps of depression. The other thing, you need to make sure you are properly diagnosed. If you go to see a doctor because you are depressed and don't mention or realize that you are actually bi-polar with manic episodes, antidepressants won't really help.

Depending on the triggers and the severity of the depression, medications may not prevent all episodes, but may make them more manageable.
Antidepressant drugs do NOT prevent depression. They merely cause you to not feel much at all. And yes, it is still possible to have depression on the drugs.
First of all, I take antidepressants, but I've also have therapy with a qualified psychologist. I am now free of depression and anxiety, so I feel qualified to answer the question.

Antidepressants in and of themselves are not a cure all for depression. What they are are tools designed to help you with the depression. So yes, it's possible to be depressed even on an antidepressant. I find that the key for me personally is a combination of medicine and therapy.
