1) Which of the 2 is more effective?
2) Which is more easily weaned of, ie. lesser side effects
3) Which is more expensive?
Answer:
Prozac and Zoloft have both been found to be effective, depending upon how a person's depression is being manifested. Both of these are said to highly effective and faster acting than some of the other ones on the market.
In my situation, I have depression with a lot of anxiety. I also tend to lack energy. Prozac tended to give men more energy but made the anxiety worse. I also developed an irregular heart beat that stopped once I stopped taking it as recommended by the cardiologist that I was seeing.
Zoloft tends to be more of a sedating anti-depressant. While it may have helped ease my anxiety, it made me real groggy and so I quit taking it - under doctor's care of course.
The side effects from being weaned off for me were minimal. Although some people are reporting that after long term useage (years) they are having trouble getting off of them. I believe that it is called the "SSRI DSyndrome" but I am not sure about the exact titile of it.
Cost wise, it depends upon your insurance I believe, but both can be kind of spendy. The one nice thing about Prozac is that from day one, a person is started on the dosage found to be at the therapuetic level 20 mgs. When the drug first came out, it was believed that was all that was needed. I think that line of thought has been revised, and higher dosages are given.
Hope this is helpful. Take care.
fluoxetine is cheaper; it is the generic of Prozac.
theyre both pretty much equally effective, although some prefer zoloft.
theyre both SSRI's and have the same side effects.
I have been on both.
I had no problems weaning off of either.
They both cost the same through my insurance plan.
Neither one of the worked and they both caused me to gain weight.
fluoxetine is the generic fro Prozac. It is very effective and of course the doctor will try to keep you on as low a dose as possible.
Zoloft is a milder drug so you may want to try that first if he gives you a choice, but it still is effective. I think this one has less side effects and is less expensive, but really, are you really going to bargain shop for your health?
good luck
1)Zoloft.
2)Fluoxetine.
3)Depends.
Personally, I've seen this stuff zobify my friends and my mom. They all quit after 9 months or so; so I feel that people should avoid these.
To solve your problems try doing something different. Run a marathon. Play tennis until exhaustion. Everyday. I do believe extreme exercise will solve your issues. Listen to good music as well.
i did the Zoloft awhile but it did to much on constipation i just stopped it and any other med's doctors gave me, did not take long because i could not tell any good that it did.
