Answer:
I think that as long as you come off them properly and dont withdraw too quickly and that you are at the right time in your life to be doing it in terms of how sorted you are with your things that may have depressed you - you are more likely to do it successfully!
Yes, I mean its not the severe chaotic thing you described, but you might have moments that your more depressed then if you hadnt taken the pills at all.
YES! Someone I know ended up taking their life, because of the lack of balance there body had after come off them.
I try not to think about it. I know how good it makes me feel now.
i have heard that with these meds ur likely to become dependent on them and takes a long time to come of them..about 6/12 moths i have heard.what ever you do dont just stop taking them in 1 go..but ur doc will tell u this.
good luck..
You need to start taking the medicine less and less every day in that way your body will get accustom to the less dosage at the end you will feel fine. I did it and worked for me, but anyways talk to your doctor. God Bless!
yes if you stop them cold turkey you can become more depressed, you have to wean yourself from them. And even if you get more depressed does not mean you will have to stay on them forever. Just until you can feel normal again. And if that means forever then so what? you are being you and that is all that matters.
I don't think they are addictive, but they change your chemical balance when you come off of them you throw your balance out of wack and being more depressed or feeling the way you did before going on the medication. I have been on antidepressants for more than 15 years and tried to take my self off of them and did end being admitted so i just take them everyday and i feel great. If your Dr. wants you off them then they can gradually take them off for you. Doing it your self can be very dangerous.
As such most of the medications used in psychiatric medication are ought to cause some sort of dependence that is both physical and psychological. there is tendency of rebound low in mood, insomnia that is difficulty in falling asleep , irritability and agitation along with anxiety if you stop taking the antidepressants abruptly and that too happens with those with shorter half life something called paroxitene.
No you can be off those medications but these medication should be continued till there is at least 6months to 1 year of stability and tapered off. Again it not guaranteed that you wont need medication throughout life as depression is a entity that depends on your physical psychological and social well being and any disturbance in any of those can cause relapse so you need to have few followups with psychiatrists even after you are completely off medications. there are two reasons foo that so that any relapse can be identified at early stage and some psychotherapy can be offered may be in form of CBT and counselling to strenghten the work i.e you good health.
Best wishes
I think it depends on how long you've been ill,and how long you've been taking antidepressants for.The longer you've been taking them, the harder it will be for your brain to re-adjust,and it may be that you end up feeling worse than you were before.I'm talking many, many years though..if it's just a few months, then there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Hi
They do cause dependency and going cold turkey is the worst feeling ever.
But going cold turkey means getting past the initial stages of dependency no matter what and with that comes the most awful feelings imaginable.
Sadly doctors and shrinks give you drugs that pacify the cold turkey feeling but keep you locked up in that cycle.
You are going to feel really crappy coming off them just like drug addicts and drink related dependencies that have that same feeling but you have two choices and if you want to come off these drugs then you will need alot of support but it can be done.
I done it and i was only a child when forced to take those drugs and 3 years of serious doses i came off them, with side affects and it took alot of support to keep me off them and eventually it worked. I was 14 when i was forced to take them and the side affects were monitored and very bad and at aged almost 17 i had to go cold turkey. It was the hardest thing ever and i didnt think i could live another day without those drugs because one of the side affects is without a doubt suicidal tendencies, self harm, sweats and various other serious affects
When you try and come off them again which i suspect you will, support is thebest cure you can get and to talk about how you feel and express your feelings. The side effects do go away but its a case of understanding them, controling them and perceviering and sadly not enough doctors or psychiatrists explain the come down effect so you just assume its you and not the affect of the drugs
