My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome... it is an Autism spectrum disorder. he also has an ADHD and bipolar DX.. it is sometimes difficult... managing behavior and keeping him safe from himself sometimes... he learns completely different than average kids... it doesn't really seem like there is much help even after getting the dx and knowing the issue... just a lot of support groups... but not many shrinks to tell you how to handle it... or the best way to help him become the best he can be.

I've worked with a dozen or so kids of different ages and forms of autism. And like a couple of others stated, they are some of the most amazing kids out there. There was one kid who could tell you the forecast of every city in the state, for that day, the week before and the week to come. They are the most exciting and challenging kids to work with.

Yes, a cousin of mine who's now 23 has high functioning autism. Honestly, he's a blast to be around with his constant smile and laughter at even my most lame jokes. People often don't realize how much good can come from a "disabled" person. They can teach us about ourselves, as well as life. I love my cousin, patience helps, and GOD bless
