Do You Have To Be Mentally Ill To Commit Suicide?

Is it possible that some people check out simply because they are tired of living? Is being tired of living a sign of mental illness, even without depression?
How do you explain the suicides of rational thinking people? Those people who actually put time and effort into planning their demise.

Answer:
In spite of the common thinking of the psychiatric community, I think it is possible to make a rational decision to commit suicide. Someone whose brain is particularly wired with a very logical way of thinking could approach life from a thought-out perspective, and make a decision based on pro- and con- decision-making. That would be rare, though...

Most people consider suicide due to overwhelming emotional or physical pain, and it is usually related to a mental condition, if not an "illness."
no u dont have to become mentally ill to commit sucide ppl commit sucide for lots of other reason..like u said tired of lifee and ect..
no, there are several factors that can come into play here.
people who are "tired of living" are obviously not very happy people. Clinically i'd say tired of living counts as being depressed.

However i can think of another reason someone would commit suicide without any mental illness.

Guilt

say a husband gets into a car accident and his wife or family members are killed, then kills himself because he feels guilty for being the one behind the wheel, even though it was an accident.

(if it wasn't an accident this doesnt count because the person is obviously already ill)
you dont have to be mentally ill. I almost did it, when i felt really down. Sometimes people do it without thinking, and if they had another chance, they would change their decision.
