Based on the fact that my mind is interupted, even stopped dead, during work. I wake up nights around 1 or 2 AM and can't stop my mind from racing about things that worry me. I believe that I have Anxiety Disorder.

I cope by stopping myself when it interupts my life and saying over and over, the monster is taking control, don't let it, what was I just doing, I will focus harder on what I was doing, I will start now and take back my life. I may repeat that several times, take a few deep breaths and dig back into what I was doing - usually accomplishing more than I thought I would. The down side of this is that because I concentrate so hard, I am NOT a multi-tasker. The problem is that by the time I realize and rest control back again, I may have lost a couple of hours in a battle I didn't realize was affecting me.

I have been diagnosed heavily ADD, I haven't worked out what part is behavior and what part is chemical yet - through my lack of effort - the whole idea that I am not in control scares the hell out of me, and I shy away from facing it.
yes there is that fear but it is not realistic. It's an imagined fear. it took me years to cope finally with the right meds and change in daily routines and lifestyles. I manage, but once in a while.. I get that build up and it's scary but you don't want to feel that again. I don't know what triggers it but it's horrible and you don't want to look like a freak or embarass yourself. I am proof that with God and friends and family who understand and the right meds you'll be OK.
I know it's hard to think about anything but negative thoughts when you are having an attack. My way of coping is to just remind myself that it will pass. It sounds corny, but just reminding myself that it's happened before and it will go away eventually keeps me from having an actual panic attack. Good luck with everything!
Hi! After suffering 15 years of panic attacks and anxiety disorders, I got rid of it by taking the following steps. (I really wish someone had told me all this when I first became unwell!).

1. Breathing properly will control your panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better. Once you start practising, it’ll become second nature.

2. Also I would really advise a course of Cognitive Behavioural therapy. CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks and anxiety (and social phobias, which it sounds you might have). It takes a bit of work, but if you put the effort in it’s super effective. You can speak to your doctor about doing a course, or you can take a course for free online at: http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/elear...
