Does there have too be a reason why u are depressed? x?

Answer:
no sometimes you just feel down for no reason, it's normal for a teenager though
Generally no.
No, clinical depression is caused by a lack of seratonin in the brain and is not something you can't just lift yourself out of. Anti-depressants replace the missing seratonin.
No, there does not. When the depression is chemical, there are two main sects: clinical and chronic. Clinical depression is basically depression that happens because of something, but stays around for quite a while. Chronic depression is from nothing and always there, you can not get rid of it (unless you attempt to with medication).
There are lots of reason's why people can become depressed. Situations and daily life effect us all in different ways. Although there is no one clear reason that causes depression, it is certain that no-one is exempt from suffering from it at any time. Go and chat to your doctor if you feel low, some times this can help.
No but if there is no reason there might be a deeper problem. If you are a teenager, it could be something you get over with time. However, if it gets worse or doesn't improve do seek help.
No. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes a person feel depressed all the time. Granted, a person can feel depressed because of some bad event or something and that does not mean a chemical imbalance, but if you don't have a reason to be depressed then I would say there is probably something going on with the chemicals in your brain.
I hope you find the below websites helpful.

It is totally normal to feel down for no reason. I cant offer any suggestions as to why you might be feeling depressed because I dont know your circumstances.
Clinical depression is a chemical imbabance in the brain. There are many causes, and several different ways to deal with it.
I guess the first step would be to try a bit of CBT (cognitive behaviour therpy). It's about turning the negative and unhappy thoughts/feelings into positives. For example, when I feel down about my weight, I try to think of something I like about myself, like my smile. Or I try to do something about it like for a walk.
Another step you could take is getting exercise. It releases endorphins in your brain which are like a natural feel good chemical.
If you feel, however, that you are suffering depression rather than just the blues I would urge you to get help. Depression is remarkably common and is nothing to be ashamed of. I got help after suffering in silence for over a year and I wish I'd done it sooner, I feel a whole lot better after talking to my mum and seeing my doctor.
Best of luck xxx
Good to differentiate between the feelings of "sadness" and "depression". Every one of us will often experience sadness now and then, no matter at what age, just like being angry or happy. But when you suffer from depression, it becomes a serious matter and consultation with a psychologist or psychiatrist is necessary.

Extreme depression may cause you to become mentally unbalanced. Most of us like to use the word "depressed" rather than "sad" because it sounds like higher vocabulary or higher level English.

So be very sure: r you just plain sad or are u suffering from depression ? Two different things. Hope that clears the air for you.

P.S
Could you provide more details as what are bothering you to assess your situation more accurately?
no
I had this problem - nothing 'wrong' but fell really down. I am now on anti-depressations and am happy/contented able to get on with life. I have had counselling which helped me cope with things that bothered me. My advice is to go to your doctor and ask for advice/help - don't shut yourself away in denial. Life is not perfect and you need to make the most of what you have. Don't be put down by others - get out and meet people with common interests. It will take time to sort out, but take it at your own pace and you will progress. The Doctor should work with you. Exercise can also help lift your spirits - just taking part in some activity - like a walk or ramble. A cycle ride maybe.
no, i dont have a reason, i just want it to go away, but it wont. Wat is x? ive hearrd it b4, can someone email me or sometin? plz?
Hi,

It depends who you ask, most medical and mental health professionals will argue yes, medically they will usually state that it's a chemical imbalance in the brain, which can be 'sorted' by anti-depressant which will balance out the imbalance, so to speak. Counsellors and psychologists will say yes that usually something has happened to cause the depression, whether this is a conscious or uncouncious event, it could be something you don't even realised effected you until you start to explore your past...and is why many people feel they don't have a reason, when really they just haven't come to realise it.
Like you i felt there was no reason for a long time and am currently seeking mental health support and realised through counselling how i have been effected by things i never realised.
But all in all i don't believe there definately has to be a reason but that the main thing is that you don't feel that that makes you any more insignificant or that you don't deserve help because you do, so please get it
best of luck

There will BE a reason, but you don't have to be CONSCIOUS of it. Many people are depressed for long periods without ever consciously knowing why. The various responses on here talking about chemical imbalances are missing the point - the chemical imbalance comes about because of the depression which may be rooted in very early childhood.

Sometimes one can get through/over depression without ever knowing what it's all been about. Other people find it helpful to go into psychotherapy and discover more about the causes. While medication can be extremely helpful in the short term for some people, relying on it for a long-term answer to depression may be worse than the depression itself, as it makes the world pretty flat and may make relationships rather shallow. Trust your own sense of what you want to do (if it's you that's depressed).
This is a very good question and the answer is often poorly understood by many GPs as well as patients.

It is best explained by saying there are 2 types of depression, Exogenous = depression from outside. This is the unhappiness produced by life and life experiences. This tends to be more understandable both to the patient and their carers, acquaintances and co-workers, as they can if you like see where it is coming from. This type of depression responds poorly to the older antidepressants and better to counselling and psychotherapy. It does respond to SSRI drugs like Prozac as these blunt emotions and also tend to mood elevate to some extent.

The second type of depression is endogenous depression = from within. It is a chemical brain illness with identifiable changes in the levels of various brain amines such as serotonin. Here there is little influence from life, For example it is just as likely to affect a happily married lottery winner. It is much more difficult for both the patient and their acquaintances to understand as it has no apparent cause. It does not respond well to counselling or psychotherapy alone, but these can be used as an adjunct to medication, It responds to both old and new style antidepressants.
it does for me ive had it for 6 years and it gets me down so badly i was planning on going out with my friend today it would of been the first time in 5 years to go out without my children and have me time but depression got the better of me! my childhood started mine off it wasnt nice way to grow up the way i was treated but didnt realise how bad it was until i had my own children, aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhhhh
it sucks.xx
No there doesn't have to be a reason. Please don't do what I have in the past and feel guilty about being depressed for no apparent reason. That just becomes a vicious circle. Reactive depression stems from one or more specific reason - eg bereavement, job loss. Clinical depression is due to a chemical imbalance and can hit you even when you have every apparent reason to be on top of the world. I remember that even when I was a little child (2 years-ish?) just feeling unbearably sad. What reason does a child of that age have to be "depressed", so NO there does not have to be a reason. What there definitely is, is help. You have to seek this help though and once you do the fact that you are getting support goes a long way to helping.
No not always.Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain.
Yeah ! I can't believe myself why I am so depressing whenever I'm surfing the net and checking my email and I have this same question to ask. What is the reason ? I am reading, I started to think about the whole world, the universe and the aliens and I can help myself but share with you whoever you are. And I love people like you asking all the questions but I hate myself if I asked the question. I may have to tell them to read their holy books if they failed to answer my question. There must be a reason for all this. Are they dummies or idiots ? If they asked me, I will tell them to read computer books. How about you ? Do you have any reason why you are so depressed ? I should triple Xs for them !
simple , cause u r not with me... If u r with me u r
not depressed but suppressed
* Dont take anti depressents *

Try altering your diet. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vege.
No I really do not think so. I know there are times I feel depressed and there is no reason for it. Then I discover I am more bored then any thing, same oh, same oh. So I go find some thing I haven't done for a while because I got in to a rut with out realizing it.
Well i cant exactly say because i have a reason why I'm depressed. But, yeah, some people do get depressed for no reason. It's normal, don't worry about it.
Good Luck! ^_^
Not at all. There are several reason for depression including:

*Chemical imbalance
*Family history of mental instability
*Inactive Thyroid
*SAD

Depression can be a state of mind but many times it has to do with both environmental factors such as SAD or family histories and imbalances passed down through families.

Below are more definite explanations of such occurrences:
sometimes you cant pinpoint depression without seeking pro help. xx
no there dosent have to be but other factors can make it worse being negative money worries health worries all sorts of things even when you have got everything money good health no worries at all you can still be depressed it is a chemical inbalance in the brain which you need to take antidepresents for
often times its for events happening in your life. but if not it could be a hormonal imbalence in your brain.

you can always talk to a doctor or a therapist if you feel you need help.
there always is. whether it is physical chemical your diet or life itself as well as a need for depression to hide something else, aka secondary gain.
Depression is an imbalance in chemicals in your brain. So, no, you do not always have to have a reason to be depressed.
yes unfortunately there must be a reason 4 depression. may be we don't realize it. it may be in our subconscious mind But there is a certain reason
