Yes, I like to know because I would refrain from sex with her if she were having her period. I don't think it is nasty because it is a natural occurrence, but it is messy and often more painful for her.

I'm not a guy, but here are my thoughts:
If a guy is mature, he shouldn't be bothered all that much by knowing about it. It's just part of being a human female that you have your period.
If you don't feel comfortable about people knowing exactly when it is, just don't mention it. (If you're sexually active, obviously then you would end up mentioning it to your partner.)

My girl describs in depth and explains why she is the way she is. She could simply say, "its that time of the month."

Generally it's nice to know "there's a visitor coming in a couple days" or whatever. And talking about cramps/pain and such is fine so we know why you may not be in the best mood. But one thing I can do without is the gory details. We don't need to know about how heavy the flow is, what color it is, how many tampons you went through, etc..
