I'll be going on vacation in about a month for two weeks, and it's pretty important that I don't get my period while there. I was wondering if this information is true? I would appreciate an answer from someone who actually knows, not from someone who's guessing or trying to rack up points. I would also like to know how this works. I have a 4 row pack: 3 rows of active pills, and 1 week of placebos. Do I just skip the week of placebos and take the next row of active pills in a second pill pack?
If anyone actually knows anything about gynocology or birth control, I would highly appreciate an answer. Thanks a bunch.
Answer:
yes that is exactly what you do.. just skip the placebo pills and go straight to the next one.. i have done this before.
However my doctor informed me that doing it twice in a row is actually bad for your system so ensure that you take your placebo pills next month as normal. And if you are anything like me, watch out for your next period.. cramps are ten times worse and so are PMS symptoms..
But its all worth it if it means you don't have your period on your vacation.. have fun
I have done this and it works, I take the 21 days on 7 days off kind and just carry on with the next packet after the 21 days so skipping the placebos would have the same effect.
I asked my doctor about taking 3 pill packs in a row and then having my period and she said that they usually only agree to allow patients to do that if there is some kind of health reason involved because they do not know the long term effects (like increased risk of getting cancer, blood clots, etc...) but if its only once I don't see the problem. Just find out how long you should stop taking your pills after (to take the placebos) (it might be 2 weeks instead of one)
Yes it can be done. No worries.
I have done this a few times, once for my wedding. You just go from your last active pill to the first active pill in your next pack. It won't harm you, and it's not a big deal.
Have fun on your vacation!
start the first pack on the second day of your menses, then continue active pills daily for as long as you want to avoid the bleed. i ahve to warn you though, it is better to have a trial of these pills a few months before you actually go on vacation as different people respond differently to the pills, and some may actualy experience some breakthrough bleed. in this case, please consukt your gynaecologist to change the pill, or add on Duphaston / norethisterone
Hi,
Playing around with your system is a very dicey thing to do at any time.
If you ask the doctor they should be able to give you something to stop your period for two weeks.
As I understand the workings of the contraceptive pill, while you are taking it you do not have a period and when you stop for a week you have your period.
This being the case if you just carry on taking the active tablets, one a day, and don't take the placebo then you should not start your period.
Skip
They've actually started selling birth control pills that contain 4 weeks of active medication that you can take for extended periods (lol) so as to not have any periods. This was recently approved by the FDA.
I don't know how long it's safe to do this, but talk to your gp/gyn doc about getting a prescription for those, rather than the type you are taking. But if you just plan this as a one-time thing, it's ok to take the active medication for 4-6 weeks.
Personally the idea of not ever having a period seems weird, and maybe not safe in the long-term. But I never liked the idea of pumping all those hormones into my body to "fool" it into thinking it's pregnant, which is essentially how the pill works. I've always used an IUD.
taking more than the directed amount can mess up your hormones and has bad side affects
